Educational blogs serve an excellent purpose for everyone involved in all years of schooling. While kindergarten students cannot necessarily interact with your blog, their parents can. This can be so helpful in encouraging parent participation in their child's education and in your classroom. As students get older, they are able to read your blogs and get information from them.

Blogs are an excellent resource and encourage growing minds to share their opinions and have access to resources from peers and other teachers. Upper elementary students and on are able to use blogs even more effectively. Students around this age can learn how to create their own blogs and share their knowledge with the world. This can be so beneficial because it lets students explore technology and how it can be an aid if used correctly and responsibly. I think it also helps students prepare for the rest of their school careers. Blogs help teachers communicate with their students and help students communicate their own ideas with the world.
Throughout this past semester in ETEC 486, I have learned a lot from reading the blogs of my classmates. The detriments of virtual schooling, the importance of classroom management, and just how common cyberbullying is. As COVID-19 struck our world, our kids suffered greatly: school was now online. Every student experienced virtual learning, from kindergarten all through college. Students, young ones especially, thrive in a social environment where they are challenged by their peers in daily interactions. These kids rely on the school to set them up to be successful for the rest of their educational careers. Kindergarten teaches kids social cues, friendship, and the importance of rules. Having that school year, along with other early elementary grades online, put students behind where they needed to be. This is making classroom management more important than ever. Classroom management is the process of obtaining mutual respect with your students. It sets boundaries, rules, and common practices. Having a well-managed classroom enables optimal learning for everyone. Students are actively participating in class, respecting each other and the teacher, and are learning the importance of boundaries and why they are set. Another aspect of technology that I learned more about is cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is rampant with today's technology as nothing is truly ever erased from the internet. Cyberbullying is so common, especially on social media. As a future teacher, I will do everything in my power to educate parents and students on cyberbullying and implement as many preventative measures as possible. Cyberbullies crave a feeling of superiority and hiding behind a computer or phone allows them to reach a lot of vulnerable targets.
In my education thus far, I have not had any experience with blogging until taking ETEC 486. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about it and the benefits that blogging has to offer. As a future kindergarten teacher, I plan to regularly use blogs to facilitate communication with the parents of my students. While my students will be too young to use blogs to share their beliefs, it will be an excellent resource for their parents. Parents with children in kindergarten are often new to having kids in school, and I hope that my blogs can be used to help them ease into a routine and help their kids as much as possible.
